Driving in and around San Miguel de Allende, as well as on the long route from Mexico City, can be challenging due to narrow, cobblestone streets, heavy traffic, toll roads, and unfamiliar routes. For most travelers, it’s safer and more convenient to use buses, shuttles, taxis, or rideshare services instead of renting a car, allowing you to relax and enjoy the trip. Additionally, parking in the city is difficult/limited and expensive, so if you prefer to drive, we recommend staying outside the historic center.
